Professionalism and Professional Standards for Doctors
Course DescriptionProfessionalism and Professional Standards for Doctors (New Zealand) is a CPD course designed to help doctors understand, apply, and demonstrate professionalism in line with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) guidance — Good Medical Practice (2020).
Professionalism is more than clinical expertise. It reflects honesty, accountability, respect, and integrity in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and the wider community. The MCNZ defines professionalism as the foundation of trust between doctors and society — a core expectation of registration and fitness to practise.
This course explores the key attributes of professionalism, the consequences of lapses, and how doctors can evidence professional conduct through reflection, insight, and remediation. It also provides practical tools for embedding professionalism into everyday practice, communication, and documentation, in both clinical and digital environments.
