Professionalism and Professional Standards for Nurses and Midwives
Course Description
Professionalism and Professional Standards for Nurses and Midwives (New Zealand) is a CPD course designed to help nurses and midwives understand, apply, and demonstrate professionalism in line with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) and Midwifery Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) codes and competencies.
Professionalism in nursing and midwifery extends beyond technical competence. It is about showing honesty, accountability, respect, and integrity in every aspect of care. The NCNZ and MCNZ expect registrants to practise in a way that upholds public trust, honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi), and provides culturally safe, person-centred care.
This course explores the key attributes of professionalism, how lapses can affect safety and registration, and how nurses and midwives can evidence professional growth through reflection, insight, and remediation. It also offers practical strategies for embedding professionalism into daily communication, documentation, and digital practice.
