Ethics and Ethical Standards for Pharmacists

Course Description

Ethics and Ethical Standards for Pharmacists (Ireland) is a CPD course designed to help pharmacists understand, apply, and demonstrate ethical practice in line with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) Code of Conduct.

The PSI Code defines the professional values and responsibilities expected of pharmacists, including respect for patient autonomy, honesty, probity, accountability, and the promotion of safe, effective, and person-centred care. Ethical standards extend to areas such as confidentiality, professional boundaries, consent, safe supply of medicines, and digital professionalism.

This course explores the four ethical principles — autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice — alongside PSI expectations. Through regulator-aligned guidance and Irish case examples, participants will develop strategies to resolve ethical dilemmas, maintain trust, and demonstrate accountability in both everyday practice and remediation contexts.
